Top Fuel Dragster

This is the pro league for drag racing and no other category in the world is faster or more extreme. In just 4.74 seconds, Urs Erbacher reaches speeds of 512 kph in his nitromethane-powered dragster and flies over the finish line on the quarter-mile (402 meter) track. 8000 bhp from 8 cylinders and a speed of 0 to 100 in 0.7 seconds: these are statistics to which only Top Fuel dragsters can aspire. Naturally, both the aerodynamics and engine have to be up to the job. Six tons of contact pressure on the back fender and three tons on the front prevent the dragster from taking off. Once you’ve seen a Top Fuel race and felt, heard and experienced just what its like, you’ll never forget it.

Urs Erbacher ...the driver

Urs Erbacher took part in his first drag race in 1982, and in 2002 he was named FIA runner-up in the Top Methanol Funny Car class. He crowned his career by walking off with the title of FIA European Drag Racing Champion over three consecutive years in 2003, 2004 and 2005 and in 2006 switched to pro league drag racing. In his first year behind the wheel of his new Top Fuel dragster, he took third place in the FIA Championship and won the last big race of the season as a rookie in England.

4-time European record holder Urs Erbacher typifies the perfect racing driver with his combination of discipline and dedication. No other driver covers the quarter-mile faster than he does. With his eyes always fixed firmly on victory, he fires the crowd with enthusiasm and is adored by his fans.

Hugely popular with journalists, cameramen, fans, spectators and rivals alike, this charismatic Swiss from Arlesheim perfectly embodies the philosophy behind drag racing: team sport battled out man-to-man.
